GOOD TO KNOW: WINDOW TREATMENTS

SELECTING WINDOW TREATMENTS

You might be asking yourself, “Are window treatments really that important?” The quick is answer is YES! You’re not just looking out the windows; you’re constantly looking at them, too!
There are a few things to consider when selecting window treatments for your home. Each space presents unique challenges and each window treatment provides a different look and function. Knowing which window treatment works best in each room make all the difference. The most important things to consider when selecting window treatments are light, privacy, and aesthetic. Keeping these three things in mind will make it easier to select the window treatments that work best for you and your home. We like to use a variety of window treatments in our projects. Mixing and layering unique combinations can create many different looks and lend each space a refined and finished feel.

We love using woven wood shades because they mix well with other elements. The wood adds a lot of warmth to a room and they work well in various spaces. Often, we layer them with drapery panels for a more refined and complex look. Woven shades tend to be sheer, so be sure to add privacy or black-out lining, if needed. Preferably, we like to hang the woven shades on the inside of the window, but some window depths don’t allow for this. Make sure to measure before ordering!

Roman shades are a classic. They add a soft and timeless feel to any room. We especially like to use them in bathrooms above bathtubs or in the kitchen. Roman shades can be made in multiple different materials, allowing for complete customization. With the ability to choose material, color and pattern, the options are endless. When selecting your shades, we like to go with either a waterfall style or a relaxed style. The waterfall style creates more of a casual look and the relaxed style leans more formal.

DRAPERY PANELS

Drapery panels are a great way to add height and texture to any room. Keep it simple with a neutral linen or choose a patterned fabric to add another jaw-dropping design element to the room.

Quick tip: Allow extra space between the window casing and the drapery hardware. For ceilings 10 feet and under, we like to hang drapery about two-thirds of the way up. For ceilings above 10 feet, we typically hang drapery 18”-24” above the casing. Make sure your draperies just barely touch the floor.
