Good To Know: Wallpaper

GETTING TO KNOW WALLPAPER

Wallpapering seems like a daunting and intimidating task without a little bit of guidance. When people think of wallpaper, their minds usually go to the stereotypical ’70s wallpaper from your grandma’s house that was so unforgiving and, well, permanent. Luckily, like Sandra Bullock, wallpaper has only gotten better with age. Now, there are so many great options out there that won’t leave a lasting impact on your space. Install has become so much simpler, with removable and even washable options! Let's face it, we have always loved wallpaper, and now, we have no excuses. It’s time to add some style to your walls.

FIRST TO CONSIDER

With any design decision, it is important to understand the space you are wanting to design before getting started. Wallpaper is a commitment, so take your time selecting a wallpaper, always order samples first, and prep the space well so it can be a painless install.

Pro Tip: Ventilation

It is important to consider the ventilation in the room before you wallpaper. You don’t want to put wallpaper in a damp or musty room, which would leave you with bubbling and potential peeling from off of the wall. This is especially important in bathrooms.

Something to consider: Matching your finish work
Consider matching the color of the wallpaper to your base, case, and crown paint color, especially if you are choosing a darker wallpaper. This helps center the eyes and creates a cohesive blend throughout the space that is really appealing.

WHERE TO USE IT

When it comes to wallpaper it’s hard to find a place that it doesn’t belong.
It adds character and it energizes the room. Our favorite places to use wallpaper are:

1. Powder Room

2. Dining Room

3. Kid’s Room

4. Ceilings (who knew!)

HOW TO USE IT (INSTALL)

Installing wallpaper can be kind of tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing. We would recommend using a professional if you’re serious about wallpapering. The only exception would be for removable or vinyl options. It is also important to always prep walls with acrylic primer paint before putting any wallpaper on the walls.
