Good To Know: Eclectic Traditional Accessories

For the past several months, our team has been busy finalizing all of the details of our Dutch Fields project. When we first embarked on this home, our clients expressed interest in a “quirky vintage” or “eclectic traditional” style. Our team has worked to embody that aesthetic through every design decision in the home. This has resulted in a truly one-of-a-kind space, full of antique wood furniture, modern touches, colorful prints, and patterned wallpaper.

One of our favorite parts of the design process is all of the final accessories that truly tie a space together. Today for Good to Know, we’re giving you a behind the scenes look at our Dutch Fields project in progress, as well as a guide for achieving this same aesthetic in your home. Please note that many of the items that we sourced were custom-made or vintage, but we have sourced similar pieces for this post. Today’s post will be part of a styling series, so comment down below what style you’d like to see us do next!

To start things off, here are a few progress pictures from our install! Please pardon our dust, as these are iPhone pictures taken in the midst of a busy day, but I think that they give a fun preview of what’s to come. Our whole team is so excited to share the final space with you all.

AND NOW, HERE’S HOW YOU CAN CREATE AN ECLECTIC TRADITIONAL LOOK FOR YOUR HOME:

Lighting

Let’s start with lighting. Once the primary lights have been chosen, adding in secondary and tertiary lights can bring so much warmth and life to a room Here are a few of the lamps and light accessories that we have chosen:

SCHOOLHOUSE RADAR SCONCE

The vintage industrial look of this sconce is perfect for a workspace, an office, or a kid’s room.

REJUVENATION GRANDVIEW FLOOR LAMP

This floor lamp is modeled after a classic 1920’s lamp, with a modern upgrade. It’s a streamlined take on a classic design, a true embodiment of the balance that our team has worked to create throughout this project.

HENLEY TASK LAMP

Perfect for a classic workspace.

LIVING SPACES

WICKER BASKETS

We utilized a variety of baskets throughout the home. Some of these were from Pottery Barn, like the Havana Seagrass Tote Basket , and others were vintage baskets from Etsy, like this one. Etsy has a ton of vintage baskets of all sizes, but many sellers will only have one of each basket, so you have to keep an eye on things to snag the best finds.

CB2 MARBLE BOOKENDS

These bookends, along with other touches that we utilized throughout the home, bring in flairs of modernity to the traditional home.

MCGEE & CO WOODEN VASES

Our team used a variety of vases and wooden pieces to style the shelves throughout the home, including vases from McGee & Co.

RESTORATION HARDWARE AFRICAN LOBI POTS

Another piece of eccentricity within the traditional space, these Restoration Hardware pots add texture and interest. It’s always fun to work something unexpected into a space, and these pots accomplish that role beautifully.

SHOPPE AMBER INTERIORS LEATHER & IRON SLING MAGAZINE RACK

This piece is one of our team’s all-time favorites. A classic example of taking something super functional and making it beautiful.

KITCHEN ACCESSORIES

VINTAGE KITCHEN CROCKS - WE LOVE THIS ONE AND THIS ONE FROM ETSY.

As with the wicker baskets, Etsy is a great place for vintage crockery. If you’re in the market for this, keep an eye out, as these go really fast. It’s also a good idea to check your local vintage shop! It’s highly likely that you’ll be able to find great vintage crockery at a reasonable price.

HEIRLOOM ART CO. FRENCH GLASS KITCHEN WARE, STAINLESS STEEL GOLD BAKING SET, AND DISH BRUSH

Heirloom Art Co. is one of our favorite places for beautiful home staples. All of the items linked above are classic and beautiful kitchen must-haves.

NEWEY AND BLOOMER COPPER TEA KETTLE

Have you ever seen a more beautiful tea kettle?

VINTAGE CERAMIC ROLLING PIN (VIA ETSY)

Look for one with blue Transferware. It will be a bit harder to find than a standard rolling pin, but you won’t regret it.

This has been a view into styling for an eclectic traditional home, and we hope that it has been helpful! To finish things off, here are a few more pictures of our install in progress.
