Good to Know: Round Top Recap

Our team just got home from Round Top Antiques Fair - which is a semi-annual market with over 4,000 dealers on an 11-mile stretch of Highway 237 in Round Top, Texas. This is where you can find the cream of the crop vintage pieces from furniture, artwork, rugs, accessories and everything in between. Having never been, we didn’t know what to really expect so, for today’s Good to Know, we’re sharing our recap and recommends with some must-see dealers, favorite pieces we saw, places to eat and more.

Austin

We decided to stay at an airbnb in Austin which is about an hour and a half outside of Round Top - mostly because there were very little options for lodging much closer that could accommodate our group of 13. If you are planning a trip to go to Round Top, we recommend booking your place to stay way in advance as it’s a small town so places to stay are limited. Most of us hadn’t been to Austin so it was actually really fun to explore the city when we had a little free time. Here are our recommends for things to do, see and eat if you find yourself in Austin, Texas.

Round Top

Before you make your trip to Round Top, you’ll need to figure out logistics of getting all the pieces you purchase back home. Most vendors have a shipping option available for you but if you’re getting a lot of things, it’s more cost effective to consider different options. This year, one of our designer’s very kind husband and his friend flew in and picked up a U-haul truck and they drove our goods the long 22 hours back home. You could also hire local shipping or moving companies to do this for you - but be sure to read reviews if they have them, some companies take extra long getting your things back to you. Another thing to keep in mind before you come is that Texas is hot and humid - wear comfortable clothes and shoes and don’t forget to stay hydrated. Food inside and around Round Top is also limited but if you’re able to - try The Garden Company and get the brussel sprouts (you can thank us later).

There are a handful of dealers that stay open year-round and then some that open up a few days before the official Round Top Market begins. We decided to go 2 different days and we split up our team to divide and conquer so we could see as much as possible. If you’re a smaller group, you’ll want to spend some more time there. If you are design and vintage fanatics like us, you could easily spend a full week hunting for treasures. We shopped at a few different areas that required tickets - The Red Barn and Marburger Farm. Both places offered VIP shopping tickets that are 100% worth the extra money as all the really great finds get swooped up quick by other designers.
