Good to Know: Mixing Metals in a Bathroom

Mixing metal finishes in any space is a great way to add depth and dimension. If you’re just dipping your toe into the world of mixed metals, a great place to start is in a bathroom. Between the lighting, cabinet hardware and plumbing—the options and combinations are endless. In this Good to Know blog post, we’re sharing our simple formula to ensure you feel confident when the time comes to make that final decision.

Know your options

Once you’re familiar with all of the different finish options, choose the ones you are naturally drawn to and weed out any that you don’t love. If you’re not sure which ones you like, go through your saved inspiration photos for your project and pay attention to the metal finishes you find in those spaces. Next, you’ll want to keep a few finishes consistent so there is common ground throughout the bathroom. We suggest selecting the same finish for your plumbing: sink faucet, shower fixtures, bathtub fixtures, etc. Once you have this base metal selected, add in another finish through your lighting, cabinet hardware or your mirror. Our final bit of advice for creating a balanced look is to counter the metal with a more organic finish: adding a natural wood cabinet or mirror, lighting with a linen shade or hand plastered walls. These added elements will soften up your space and create a refined yet relaxed look.
