Good to Know: Holiday Decor Guide

McGee & Co

Heirloom Art Co.

As December draws near, we are so excited to decorate our spaces for the holidays (some of us may have already started). We have had many people ask for tips on how to design your holiday home, so we put together mood boards for four different styles. You can go all in on one style or mix and match to suit your own aesthetic. My own home is a collection of pieces I have found over the years that struck me. They are primarily classic, but some eclectic and neutral pieces have found their way into the mix. So much like designing other spaces, it really just comes down to what you love.

Red and green set the scene for a classic Christmas, add some gold for a little sparkle. We love the traditional European wooden pyramids and figures. Fresh greens, candles, plaid blankets, nutcrackers, smokers, stars, advent calendars, berries and Christmas stories are a sure fire recipe to bring the festive spirit into your home.

We recommend finding pieces with clean lines, simple color pallets and smooth surfaces for a contemporary look. Less is more is often the best advice here.

Warm earth-tones, soft surfaces and natural materials round out a cozy collection for your neutral and organic holiday design. Add a beautiful leafy garland to bring the outside in. What's great about many of these pieces, is they have a wintery feel and some can even carry over into the first couple months of the new year.

Looking for a fun, eclectic way to style your home for the holidays? Brighter colors, mixed patterns and textures, whimsy, retro and a little bit of quirk will make your sentimental heart happy and give a nod to the holiday seasons of years gone by.
